Directors Guild Awards 2011

Queen Helen gets it done.

Good morning, darlings! If it's not morning when you're reading this then what the hell took you so long to get here? The stars came down from the heavens last night, put on gowns, and attended the Directors Guild Awards. Let's form opinions!

Amy Adams

We sound like a broken record (cue the under-25s: "What's a broken record?"), but too many women try to pull off neutrals without taking their own skin tone into consideration. This neutral shade has a yellow undertone and Amy's skin is pink. Put them together and they spell "unflattering." If she really wanted a neutral, she should have looked at one that worked with her skin tone rather than against. In short: We no like.

Claire Danes in Roland Mouret

She looks really great here: dramatic, sleek, eye-catching. That one pic of her husband staring at her with pride is seriously adorable, even though they both have reputations for having enormous sticks up their respective asses.

Elisabeth Shue

Ohhhhh, SWEETIE. That's just wrong, dear. That dress doesn't fit correctly and it's not a particularly flattering dress anyway. The hair is just sad.

Helen Mirren

It's not the most spectacular thing she's ever worn, but she looks good. Classic and respectable.

Helena Bonham Carter

If you saw her Style Profile the other day, then you'll know that this is a very toned-down HBC. We're curious how toned down she'll be on Oscar night. Still, she remains true to herself, with the weird volume on the skirt, and the purse and glasses. She looks cute.

Jennifer Lawrence in Prabal Gurung

It's a great dress, even if it's a bit standard. We just don't think the heavy black shoes were the way to go.

Julia Stiles

You could pick this dress up at any dress shop in America for under a hundred bucks.

Melissa Leo

This is not 1989 and you are not Diane Keaton.

Natalie Portman in Michael Kors

Just to demonstrate how loving, kind and fair-minded we are, we finally saw Black Swan last night. The very second the screen turned to white and the credits appeared, Tom turned to Lorenzo and said, "What a silly piece of crap." Lorenzo, who had already put on his hat, gloves, and scarf ten minutes before, replied with "Get me the hell out of here." Yes, kittens. We hated the movie.

BUT! We love this dress and we love her in it and we think it's the best she's looked in a while.

Sofia Vergara

It's a pretty dress and she's got one hell of a body, but someone needs to tell her that dresses don't have to be super skin-tight ALL the time.
