Golden girl Taylor Swift glitters in a shimmering fringed dress and knee-high boots

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Going for gold: Taylor Swift kicked off her Speak Now world tour in Omaha, Nebraska tonight looking stunning in a gold fringed dress and knee high black boots

She is one of American music's shining lights, with her platinum-selling albums and a stash of awards to her name.

So it was perhaps fitting that 21-year-old Taylor Swift sported a striking golden fringed dress on the first date of her Speak Now world tour tonight.

The 21-year-old singer teamed her fringed mini dress with a pair of knee-high black boots as she kicked off her most elaborate tour yet in Omaha, Nebraska.

The star also returned to a past habit of writing on herself for live shows, this time seeming to scrawl a lyric along her arm in black pen.

Backed by a nine-piece band and eight dancers, the singer played for two hours, changing costume several times as she performed songs from hit albums Fearless and Speak Now.

Fun times: The 21-year-old singer looked like she was enjoying herself as she played a cherry red guitar and sung to the enthusiastic crowd

Earlier, she had told People.com how she helped plan the theatrical looking show, which includes pyrotechnics and a fake snowstorm.

'The tour is exactly how my imagination looks and I'm so excited that we get to have these entire scenes created on stage,' she said.

'I started out in theatre so you definitely see influences of that.'

Skin graffiti: Taylor wrote what looked like lyrics on her arms in black pen for the show

'We get to have such groovy, cool stuff happening,' she added to MTV about the stadium-based show. 'I've never had pyro before. I've never had aerialists before.

It's got this grand staircase. The stage in itself looks like an old-world theatre.

'I can't believe we get to play stadiums. I'm so excited about this tour. I want to live on that stage. I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better.'

The star also said she saw the tour as a 'thank you' to her fans, who made Speak Now one of the most successful albums of last year.

American sweetheart: Taylor revealed she has had a lot of input into the theatrical tour

'That's why I'm so blown away. That's why I can't wait to go out on tour and thank them personally,' she said.

And she certainly seemed to enjoy tonight's show, tweeting after her performance: 'Woah Omaha. That first show was SO much fun and I can't wait to see you again tomorrow!!'

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No... it's flying Lady Gaga! Singer

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Flying through the air with the greatest of ease: Lady Gaga rides to the stage during a live concert performance in New York's Central Park for ABC's Good Morning America

Lady Gaga made a rather grand entrance as she kicked off Good Morning America's summer concert series today in New York's Central Park.

The 25-year-old singer surprised thousands of fans, some of whom had been camping out to see her since 3am, by zip-lining through the air and onto the stage dressed in a typically flamboyant outfit.

She dangled from a harness wearing a quirky red and white costume that featured a headdress, cape-like jack and of course, sky-high black heels.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing - there was a technical glitch during her opening number, Bad Romance.

Just hanging out: The singer delighted fans with her arrival

The track began and while her voice could be heard, the star herself was nowhere to be seen.

By the time she finally emerged and whizzed down to the stage on the wire, the song all but over.

Her choreograhper Laurieann Gibson explained later: 'What happened was Gaga wasn’t in her harness, but they cued the show. That’s live television!'

She told PopWrap: 'GMA is amazing, but I think they were a little overwhelmed because it was Gaga! So I had a bit of a spazz out.'

Once on stage, she peeled down to red fishnet stockings and a red leotard.
She thrilled her 'little monsters' with a string of her hits, including Born This Way, Judas and Edge of Glory from her latest album.

Caped crusader: The star wore a huge white coat over her racy costume

Keeping ahead of the pack: Gaga also wore a pair of custom-made horns

Now Lady Gaga 'gives birth' on stage: Outrageous singer releases gold liquid

By MARCUS BARNES

Another Gaga stunt: Lady Gaga donned a fake baby bump, rested her feet in stirrups and 'gave birth' to gold liquid as she sang hit Born This Way on Saturday Night Live

She's covered herself with blood, emerged from an egg and danced around with a crucifix on her crotch.

And now Lady Gaga can add giving birth to her growing list of outrageous stage show stunts.

With a false belly attached to her midriff, the singer placed her legs in a pair of stirrups and proceeded to secrete gold liquid during a performance on U.S. show Saturday Night Live.

Controversial: The singer is never one to shy away from outrageous stunts - this the latest in a long line of bizarre performances

The 25-year-old singer began her performance by emerging from a pod, emblazoned with the name Beluga Gagaviar No1 - a reference to the famous, and very expensive, brand of caviar.

Wearing a pair of PVC trousers and a cropped PVC blazer, which exposed her ultra-flat midriff, she launched into a typically energetic performance, singing all the vocals live as usual.

Towards the end of the song her dancers surrounded her and, when she emerged from the scrum Gaga had acquired a huge bump.

She immediately headed from a mock hospital bed to the side of the stage where her dancers helped into a pair of stirrups, and she subsequently 'gave birth' to a gold liquid.

The performance was part of Saturday Night Live's closing show which was hosted by singer Justin Timberlake.

Eccentric: Gaga's influence spread to the set of the show which was covered with gold and black stripes to match the outfits of her dancers and herself

Plenty of bottle: Gaga joined in the fun throughout the show dressing up as a wine bottle in this Liquorville with host Justin Timberlake

Gaga also performed her songs Edge Of Glory and Judas during the show, as well as joining in with the comedy sketches.

she was the female element in a song about threesomes performed by Timberlake and comedian Adam Samberg.

The hilarious song, which included the chorus 'It's okay when it's in a three-way, it's not gay when it's in a three-way. With some honey in the middle there's some leeway, the area's grey in a one, two, three-way.'

Surprise: Timberlake and Samberg end up in bed together without Gaga in the amusing video

The singer kept a straight face throughout the song, which sees Timberlake and Samberg end up in bed together without her.

In another scene she put a huge cork on her head, with a dress covered in grapes and a huge wine glass on each of her arms in Timberlake's Liquorville sketch.

Appeal: Gaga asked fans to send in videos for the advert and editors were inundated with material

Fans responded within minutes and uploaded hundreds more videos.

As the videos streamed in, editors worked on the video in real time dropping in new footage as it was received.

The film was completed four days ago, just in time for Gaga's performance on yesterday's season finale of Saturday Night Live.
