Blake Lively for Chanel
Chanel unveiled the first images of Blake Lively's Mademoiselle handbag ad campaign photographed by Karl Lagerfeld himself, darlings. Check it:
When the campaign was first announced, Lagerfeld explained the choice to WWD: “She’s a kind of American dream girl. I think she will become a great actress.” Blake was, understandably, thrilled with the opportunity. “A dream come true is an understatement. I can say that I feel like the happiest, luckiest girl around."
God, we're trying here. Really we are. Despite what some of her more ardent defenders may think, we don't have anything against the girl. She's pretty and she puts the effort in on the dressing front, even if she drops the ball more often than not. We thought she was a somewhat odd choice for a Chanel campaign, but we figured if they could make January Jones look sultry holding a Versace bag, then maybe Uncle Karl can pull something out of her that we're just not seeing yet.
Still not seeing it. We will say she looks very pretty and very chic in all the shots and the best of them is the one with the mirror, but it's all missing that indefinable something. There's just not a lot going on behind the eyes. If anything she looks a little shielded and nervous.
Oh, and here's a closeup of one of the bags, for those of you who have birthdays coming up and are pondering what to ask for:
Personally, we think the bling only works when the bag is black, but that's us.
